🌶 Spicy take: you don't have to spend time having 1:1 conversations to start building community

I know as community builders we love building relationships. It’s a core part of what we do. However, I find that so much of the advice these days is to start super small with 1:1 conversations.

Whilst I don’t disagree with it, I also feel that we should balance this with other tactics.

It’s perfectly valid not to have 1:1 conversations at the beginning, or ever.

If community is about helping people and bringing people together, then there are many other ways to do that.

In addition to that, as community builders we need to focus on impact. Sometimes starting too small just doesn’t bring the impact companies need.

Casting the net wider with less depth is ok too.

I tweeted for more spicy reach too

This topic is spicy enough without adding my own condiments, so all I want to say is - agreed. 100% agreed.

The sheer impracticality of the idea should be enough to help people realise this is an optional and not necessary tactic.
